When she looks at her image in the mirror

she does not see herself.

She doesn't see a strong woman

nor a smart girl.

She focuses on scars

and imperfections alike.

She hates what she sees

and that's when the tears strike.

She forgets she's gorgeous

and imperfectly unique.

She's gold and silver

but that's not what she seeks.

She feels defeated 

by an image she can't achieve.

For she is no less than a beauty

but only sees a beast.

Cursed Crown

Power is a crown

as heavy as prestige,

useless without support 

as lonely is the queen.

As she parades in her gown,

love an overused word,

her subjects bow to the ground,

their mouths filled with dirt.

Her hurt is strong and profound,

but she acquired from birth,

a heavy and beautiful crown,

tied with a bow and a curse.

She cannot escape it now,

so she's bound to live

as the sovereign of a town

that love will never give.
